Ancol Barat, North Jakarta (5/2) – The Faculty of Environmental Engineering of Diponegoro University held Practical Work Activities period I 2020 conducted in companies in a number of regions of Indonesia.
One of undip Environmental Engineering Study Program students named M. Djorghi Neil H. (20) Conduct Practical Work on Environmental Management System (SML) in one of the well-known paint industry namely PT. Nipsea Paint and Chemicals Jakarta. Practical Work is carried out within one calendar month from January 5 to February 5, 2020.
"One of the reasons I chose the topic of SML in this company is because I am interested in finding out and analyzing whether the company is already running its environmental management system well, because as I know SML in an industry is one of the cores or core of the company has met the standards in maintaining its environment or not." Djorghi said.
The Practical Work Program implemented can also help students in recognizing what it is like to work in their field when they graduate. For Djorghi this program is very helpful in adding experience in the world of work.
"It adds insight, experience, and most importantly relationships, especially in pt company. Nipsea Paint and Chemicals Jakarta I am very welcomed by my supervisor Ibu Dewi Lisna as GA HRD and Mr. Anton as the Manager of GA HRD department in the Company. In addition, I also get a lot of help from every employee who works here, the people here are very friendly." He said.

In the process of analysis Djorghi uses quantitative analysis method where Djorghi compares between the application of Environmental Management System (SML) based on the application of ISO 14001:2015 in PT. Nipsea Paint and Chemicals Jakarta with ISO 14001:2015 standard with checklist created and customized from Global Environmental Management Initiative (GEMI).
"I use this analysis method because, I think by comparing the application of SML in the company with a checklist will produce an accurate value / score and can be formed a clear conclusion because it is based on the resulting value." Djorghi said in response.
According to Djorghi, The Implementation of Environmental Management System in PT. Nipsea Paint and Chemicals Jakarta has been running in accordance with ISO 14001:2015 standards. This is based on PT. Nipsea Paint and Chemicals Jakarta has committed to continue to maintain the environment well and take precautions in dealing with environmental issues, but there are still some obstacles, namely the need to improve the principle of support because the principle gets a smaller value than other values.
"From these obstacles, according to my observations, improvements can be made, such as improving the communication of each department and between departments and continuing to provide training to company employees to be more competent in their fields so as to have a good impact on the company." Djorghi said.
As for advice from Djorghi for PT. Nipsea Paint and Chemicals Jakarta is the maintenance and implementation of environmental management system performance in a good company is always improved to better with continuous improvement and development of document control system using paperless system that can facilitate the work of employees to be more efficient and save operational costs for paper.
Djorghi also added messages for Environmental Engineering students who will carry out Practical Work later.
"I hope for friends who are or want to do a Practical Work program later must understand every theme taken so that the spirit in exploring every information you want to find in the company you are going to, as well as being polite and kind so as to add relationships that will be useful in the future when you graduate." He said.
